Until now Nashvillians were unsure whether their food was natural, or genetically-modified (GM). Why? The United States is the only industrialized nation in the world that does not require labeling of GM-derived foods.
“Is Your Food Natural?” is a fun, hands-on and interactive workshop that provides adult non-scientists the opportunity to investigate the extent of genetic modification in foods brought from home. No previous experience is required for this fun workshop!
GM-foods are different than traditional crops developed through cross-pollination. GM methods introduce genes from foreign organisms into crops, or remove others, to enhance yield by adding pest or herbicide resistance. Some of these changes have the potential to modify nutrients within our foods and possibly diminish their health benefits.
“Is Your Food Natural?” workshops are a fantastic way for Nashvillians to learn more about their food, the influence of these GM-foods on their body, as well as aging and age-related disease. Workshops also make a wonderful gift.
